Pong Dam Lake
Himachal Pradesh, India
About Pong Dam Lake
The Pong Dam on the Beas was completed in 1974, creating the Maharana Pratap Sagar reservoir. The lake was declared a wildlife sanctuary and, in 2002, a Ramsar wetland of international importance. Every winter large flocks of bar-headed geese, ducks and other waterbirds arrive. Ransar island, Nagrota Surian and the dam area near Talwara are the usual access points, and water sports are run at times by Himachal Tourism.
